It is good that the Election Commission of India (ECI) is getting its data in order to make sure invalid voters are removed from the rolls, and valid voters can easily access and communicate wtih ECI. While there is a paper-based process happening via Booth Level Offiers ( BLO ), there is a convenient self-serve online process. I got my SIR 2026 formalities done through the online way and would like to share the steps, in case it helps. Make sure you keep your Voter ID card and Aadhar ready.

1. Search and note your details from the last SIR

1. Use Google Chrome browser and go to https://voters.eci.gov.in . the site may take a few minutes to load
2. Click the button labelled – Search your name in last SIR – Select the state at the time of last SIR ( 2002 ) and add your full name, as it appears on the voter ID card.
3. You may get a long list of your namesakes. I found myself by doing a CTRL + F for my location. The results can go in multiple pages. ( mine was 2 )
4. Note all the details on the form that appears in a separate word doc or notepad. ( or write it down, if you like paper 😀 )
5. If you do not find details in the last SIR, you will probably need to do it manually by contacting your BLO. In most cases the details should be found.

2. Link your mobile number

1. If your number is not registered with ECI, add it via the Form 8 option. This is required for login and Aadhar e-sign. Make sure you choose the Correction of details (something similar ), although this is an addition and not a correction.
2. In the form that appears, update your Aadhar number and mobile number. Make sure you enter all mandatory information ( marked with a * ) . All other fields are optional
3. Submit the form – you will need to e-sign the form using Aadhar OTP.

3. Optional, but useful – Create a login

1. There is a sign up option on top right to create a login for yourself on the website. Use that to create a login id for yourself ( username will be your phone number and password would be an OTP that you get )

4. Fill the enumeration form

1. On the homepage of https://voters.eci.gov.in click the Fill Enumeration Form button.
2. Sign in using your mobile number, or EPIC ( voter id number )
3. Fill all mandatory details in the form that follows, particularly the last SIR details captured in step 1
4. Submit the form, and e-sign with Aadhar
5. You will get a receipt at the end of it. Save it carefully.

Pro – tip:

If your photo on the Voters card looks like that of an Interpol most wanted, you have an opportunity to upload a recent photograph – not more than 1mb in size.

The aadhar signing process, and a few steps on the website may appear stalled at time and may take a few minutes. It will test your patience. All the best!
